Food: Chocolate, coffee, caffeine

Why: Methylxanthines - vomiting, heart arrhythmia, seizures; darker = more dangerous

Food: Xylitol (sugar-free gum, some peanut butters, baked goods)

Why: Rapid hypoglycemia and liver failure - among the most dangerous, tiny amounts count

Food: Grapes and raisins

Why: Kidney failure; no established safe dose

Food: Onions, garlic, chives, leeks

Why: Red blood cell damage (anemia), cooked or raw, including powders

Food: Macadamia nuts

Why: Weakness, tremors, hyperthermia

Why: Some cause liver failure; treat all yard mushrooms as toxic
