Crosses, done properly
A cross can inherit from either parent line. We say which risks travel, and which ones crossing does not dilute.
Color is sometimes health
Merle, dilute coats and white-linked deafness carry real risk. Most breed sites won’t tell you — most breed sites are selling puppies.
Sizes most listings get wrong
Petite, Miniature, Medium and Standard are genuinely different dogs with genuinely different feeding, gear and crate needs. Getting it wrong is a leading reason doodles are rehomed.
A rosette is the ribbon pinned on a dog at a show — the circular pleated award, with streamers, that goes to Best in Breed, Best in Group, Best in Show.
Almost no dog ever gets one. There are around 90 million dogs in American homes and a vanishing fraction of them will ever stand in a ring. We took the name anyway, on purpose, because the belief fits on a ribbon: every dog deserves a Best in Show life. Not a show career — the life. Fed correctly, exercised properly, understood, and cared for by someone who knows what their breed actually needs.
The mark
The logo is a rosette: twelve petals around a center, in the alternating greens of a ribbon. Where the placing number would go — the 1, the 2, the Best in Show — there is a paw print instead. That is the whole idea in one image. The dog is the award. There is no number, because there is no ranking.
Why .dog
rosette.dog rather than a .com. The .dog completes the sentence rather than reading as a workaround for something taken, and it says what the site is before anyone clicks.
The other meaning
There is a second, quieter one. In botany a rosette is a circle of leaves growing from a single center — a plant arranging itself around what matters. We did not choose it for that, but we have grown fond of it.
What it is not
It is not about competition, pedigree, or papers. Around half the dogs in our guide are crossbreeds and mixes, given exactly the same depth as every AKC breed, because a dog's care needs do not care what is written on a certificate.
