Put Rosette on your phone.

It takes about ten seconds and there is nothing to download. Rosette installs straight from your browser — no App Store, no Play Store, no account, no 300 MB sitting on your phone.

📱 On an iPhone or iPad

Use Safari. Apple only allows home-screen installs from Safari on most iPhones, so if you are in Chrome, open rosette.dog in Safari first.

  1. Open rosette.dog/app in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button — the square with an arrow pointing up. It is at the bottom of the screen on an iPhone, and at the top on an iPad.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add in the top right.
  5. Close Safari. Rosette is now on your home screen with the other apps.
Why this one matters on an iPhone: Safari clears saved data for websites you have not opened in about a week. Installing it to the home screen stops that, so your dogs stay put.

🤖 On an Android phone

Chrome usually offers to do this for you. If it has not, the manual route takes a few seconds.

  1. Open rosette.dog/app in Chrome.
  2. If a bar appears at the bottom saying Install or Add to Home screen, tap it and you are done.
  3. Otherwise tap the three dots in the top right.
  4. Tap Add to Home screen (on some phones it says Install app).
  5. Confirm with Install or Add.
Samsung Internet, Firefox and Edge all work too — the option lives in the same menu, sometimes worded Add page to → Home screen.

💻 On a computer

Handy if you do your reading at a desk. It opens in its own window with no browser clutter.

  1. Open rosette.dog/app in Chrome or Edge.
  2. Look for the install icon in the address bar — a small screen with a downward arrow.
  3. Click it, then click Install.
  4. On Safari for Mac, use File → Add to Dock instead.

What you get by installing it

It works with no signal. The whole library, every breed and the emergency pages are stored on your phone. That is the entire point of the emergency section — a car park with one bar is exactly when you need it.
It opens like an app. Its own icon, no address bar, no tabs.
Your dogs stay saved. On an iPhone especially, installing is what stops Safari clearing them after a week away.
Nothing to sign up for. No account, no email, no card. Sign in only if you want the same dogs on a second device.

Questions people ask

Is this a real app, or a shortcut to a website?

Both, and that is on purpose. It is a progressive web app: it installs from the browser, then runs from your phone with its own icon and works offline. What it is not is a download from the App Store or Play Store — there is nothing to approve, nothing to update, and no 300 MB of storage gone.

Is it free? What is the catch?

Free, and there is no catch worth hiding. Some gear pages carry affiliate links, which earn us a small commission if you buy through them at no extra cost to you. Nothing you read during an emergency carries a link or an ad, and it never will.

Do I need to make an account?

No. Everything works without one, stored on your phone. An account exists only so your dogs appear on your other devices, and you can delete it — properly, in the app — whenever you like.

Will it take up much space?

A few megabytes. Less than a couple of photos.

Why is it not in the App Store?

Because this way it is free to make, free to give away, and updates the moment we improve something rather than when a review queue allows it. We may put it in the App Store later; it will still be free either way.
