Crossbreed - no registry group (parent groups: Sporting + Non-Sporting) · Varies by variant (13–80 lbs across sizes) · 11-14 years
Weimardoodle
Typically fearless from the Weimaraner side and proud from the Poodle - but a cross is an individual first: littermates can land at opposite ends of both parents. Meet the dog, not the label.

Why it matters
Sizes — this matters more than it sounds
Weimardoodles are bred in more than one size, decided mainly by which Poodle parent is used. The weights below are typical adult ranges, not guarantees.
| Petite under 14 in | 13–26 lb Toy Poodle parent |
| Miniature 14–17 in | 27–36 lb Miniature Poodle parent |
| Medium 17–21 in | 37–51 lb Moyen or small Standard Poodle parent |
| Standard over 21 in | 48–80 lb Standard Poodle parent |
How to know which you have: Ask the breeder for BOTH parents' adult weights and heights. That is a verifiable fact; the size label is a marketing choice, and breeders do not define these terms the same way. If your dog is already grown, the scale settles it.
Why it matters: Every feeding amount, gear size and crate recommendation in Rosette is calculated from the weight you enter — so a Miniature and a Standard of the same cross get genuinely different guidance. Getting this wrong is a common reason doodles end up rehomed.
The honest caveat: Breeders do not agree on these labels. Some call anything under a Standard a 'Mini'. Others split it into Petite, Micro and Toy. Ask for the PARENTS' adult weights and heights — that is a fact, where the label is a marketing choice. And no breeder can guarantee an adult size; an honest one gives you a range and says so.
What this is
A cross of: Weimaraner × Poodle (Standard). A cross can inherit from either parent line — in temperament, coat and health. Read both parent breeds, and treat anything shared by both as the risk that matters most.

Honest challenges
The coat is a part-time job
Doodle coats mat from the skin out - by the time it looks tangled, it's felted underneath.
What helps: ['Line-brush to the skin 3-4x a week - surface brushing is how matting hides', 'Professional groom every 6-8 weeks, non-negotiable, for life', "If it mats badly, a short 'teddy clip' restart is kind - shaving a matted coat is welfare, not failure"]

Alone time is genuinely hard
Bred to work or live beside a human all day - solitude was never in the job description.
What helps: ['Train it like a skill: the Alone-Time guide builds tolerance in micro-doses from day one', 'The frozen-KONG-only-when-you-leave ritual turns departures into jackpots', "Cover long days honestly: a midday walker, daycare 2-3x a week, and a camera to know (not guess) how they're doing"]

Under-exercise becomes YOUR problem
A working engine without an outlet redirects into barking, digging, and demolition.
What helps: ["A daily aerobic outlet is non-negotiable - Running partner after maturity is this breed's love language", '20 minutes of brain work tires like an hour of fetch: puzzles, scent games, new tricks', 'Feed meals from puzzle feeders and snuffle mats - make breakfast a job']

Needs a real outlet, rain or shine
Moderate-high drive doesn't take days off.
What helps: ['Build the outlet into the routine: Obedience and agility elite', 'Brain work counts double on bad-weather days - see Training School', 'A flirt pole in the yard delivers a workout in ten minutes']

What you can do
Exercise & training
Exercise: Very high - 2+ hrs/day (from Weimaraner) / High (Standard: 1-2 hrs) to moderate (Toy/Mini) (from Poodle (Standard)) - a cross can land at either end, or between.
Training profile — Gundog / retrieving-pointing-flushing type: Biddable and handler-focused: these breeds genuinely want to work WITH you. Under-exercised gundogs invent jobs - usually involving your furniture.
Sports and outlets that suit them: Running partner after maturity · NAVHDA · Tracking
What you can do
Grooming & coat
Grooming: Very high effort expected. The specifics depend entirely on which coat this individual inherited - see coat_and_grooming for the honest version, including matting risk and professional grooming budget.
Shedding: Low as a starting expectation - but shedding is one of the least predictable traits in a cross. See coat_and_grooming: a single litter can produce both a low-shed and a full-shedding coat, and no breeder can promise which you'll get.

Health to know about
From the Weimaraner line: Bloat (high risk), hip dysplasia, hypertrophic osteodystrophy, von Willebrand's, separation anxiety | From the Poodle (Standard) line: Standard: bloat, Addison's, sebaceous adenitis, hip dysplasia. Mini/Toy: patellar luxation, PRA, dental disease, Legg-Calve-Perthes
BOTH parent lines carry risk for: bloat, hip dysplasia. This is the important one to understand - crossing does NOT dilute a risk that both lines share, and 'hybrid vigor' does not apply here. Ask for testing on BOTH sides for these.
Breed-typical tendencies, not a diagnosis. Individual dogs vary enormously — your veterinarian screens for what matters for your dog.
