Crossbreed - no registry group (parent groups: Non-Sporting) · Medium (42-55 lbs typical) · 8-11 years
Bull-Pei
Typically docile from the Bulldog side and independent from the Chinese Shar-Pei - but a cross is an individual first: littermates can land at opposite ends of both parents. Meet the dog, not the label.

What this is
A cross of: Bulldog (English) × Chinese Shar-Pei. A cross can inherit from either parent line — in temperament, coat and health. Read both parent breeds, and treat anything shared by both as the risk that matters most.

Why it matters
Honest challenges
Independent contractor, not employee
Bred to work without human direction - repetition drills insult them.
What helps: ['Short sessions, premium pay: five brilliant minutes beat thirty mediocre ones', 'Work WITH the instincts - scent games for noses, chase games for sprinters', "Marker training makes your 'yes' crystal clear (Training School)"]

Summer is dangerous, not just uncomfortable
Coat or airway makes heat a genuine physical limit.
What helps: ['Dawn and dusk walks; midday is rest time', 'Cooling mat, shade, and AC access always (see Home Setup)', 'Learn the heatstroke signs in SOS - minutes matter']

Built beautiful, breathes carefully
Short airways set real physical limits.
What helps: ['Exercise in cool hours only; weight is the #1 breathing variable', 'Harness always - never a collar on this airway', 'Know the breathing-emergency signs in SOS']

Prey drive is hardwired
Small fast animals flip an ancient switch - this is wiring, not disobedience.
What helps: ['Management IS the training: never unsupervised with small pets, period', 'Secure fencing plus leash or long line outdoors for life', 'Feed the drive legally: flirt pole and lure-chase games']

What you can do
Exercise & training
Exercise: Low - 20-40 min of gentle walks, never in heat (from Bulldog (English)) / Moderate - 45-60 min/day, not in heat (from Chinese Shar-Pei) - a cross can land at either end, or between.
Training profile — Brachycephalic / low-impact companion: Exercise quota is modest but enrichment quota is not - these are clever, people-focused dogs. Air conditioning is safety equipment, not luxury.
What you can do
Grooming & coat
Grooming: Low effort expected. The specifics depend entirely on which coat this individual inherited - see coat_and_grooming for the honest version, including matting risk and professional grooming budget.
Shedding: Low as a starting expectation - but shedding is one of the least predictable traits in a cross. See coat_and_grooming: a single litter can produce both a low-shed and a full-shedding coat, and no breeder can promise which you'll get.

Health to know about
From the Bulldog (English) line: Brachycephalic airway syndrome (severe), hip dysplasia (highest rate of any breed), skin fold dermatitis, cherry eye, hemivertebrae, heat stroke; most require C-sections to whelp | From the Chinese Shar-Pei line: Shar-Pei fever/amyloidosis (breed-specific), entropion (most need eye surgery evaluation), skin fold infections, allergies, ear problems
Breed-typical tendencies, not a diagnosis. Individual dogs vary enormously — your veterinarian screens for what matters for your dog.
